International educators and experts, namely Professor Daniel C. Levy, a distinguished Professor at the State University of New York (SUNY); Ms. Vivian Lau, the President of JA Asia Pacific; and Professor Saravanan Gopinathan, an Adjunct Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore have confirmed to be plenary speakers at the 2019 Philippine Education Conference on December 3-4 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.
With the theme, “Responsive Policies and Practices Towards the Development of the Philippine Education Sector,” the conference aims to highlight the need for policies and practices that are responsive to the needs of learners and schools for the development of the education sector. Specifically, it encourages discussions on operationalizing the complementarity between private and public schools in the areas of education financing and quality assurance. It also features school initiatives in terms of policies and programs that address emerging issues that affect today’s learners.
Distinguished Professor Levy’s main appointment is at SUNY-Albany in Educational Policy and Leadership. His main research interest is how educational institutions fit into civil society. His eight books and numerous articles deal mostly with higher education policy. Since 2000, he has devoted his attention mostly to private-public interfaces in higher education. As scholar and consultant, he has lectured at almost all the leading U.S. universities and in six continents.
Ms. Lau currently serves as the president of JA Asia Pacific, a member of JA Worldwide. JA Worldwide is one the largest global NGOs dedicated to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.
Professor Gopinathan is an Adjunct Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy of the National University of Singapore. He helped NUS establish a Center for Research in Pedagogy and Practice and was involved in setting up the Singapore Centre for Teacher Thinking and the Principals Executive Center. He is a founding member of the Educational Research Association of Singapore.
